On the face of it, a GSM hunting camera has all the applications of a classic hunting camera: it records videos and takes pictures. Even without a subscription and without a SIM card, and therefore without the possibility of transmitting photos, a GSM hunting camera performs its functions. In order to transmit the data (photos), the SIM card must have an internet plan if the transmission is done by email, and a telephone plan if it is done by MMS. Hence the obligation to subscribe to an operator and take a prepaid SIM card. 

Whether or not a phone subscription requires depends on whether or not the user needs to receive the camera data in real time.
